This was my high school's 2024 musical. For this show, I got full creative freedom with the set and had more opportunities to build more complex pieces. Little Women was the biggest show that I got to design by myself. When designing this show I thought a lot about realistic sets versus abstract sets. I decided to combine both of those ideas in my design. For the "comfortable" scenes, or the scenes where the family is all together, I wanted to make the set more realistic and make it feel safer for the characters. For scenes where characters are far from the family, I took a more abstract approach to get rid of that safe feeling.

Sketches
Here are the sketches for the different scenes that appear in Little Women. I thought a lot about how to connect the difference themes and emotions that the play showcases into the design. To do this, I researched the feelings of isolation and familiarity. The attic feels confortable and familiar while the boarding house feel unusual and isolating.
With the attic, the script pages that made up the walls were able to be taken on and off by actors during the shows.

Models
These are mini models of the parlor and the attic for the director to use during rehearsals. This was my first time making any sort of scenic model.

Contruction and Painting
Construction for Little Women was a complicated process, with a lot of problem solving involved. My role in this process was to help solve those problems. Along with that, I aided the construction process by helping to build the ballroom windows and candle stands. I did a lot of the base painting along with most of the details.
