Huntley High School
Development Project
The Huntley High School (HHS) Development Project deals with providing assistance to the theatre program at HHS. After graduating HHS, I noticed the program struggling to provide students with design and tech opportunities despite having great facilities and equipment. My role in this project is to help students understand what theatre is like after high school and also to help the staff develop a process to teach future students about designing and working on theatrical productions.
This involves me creating presentations with others to showcase to a group of high school students that is about theatre and the career paths with it after high school. I also met with the current Technical and Assistant Technical Director (TD, ATD) of HHS to discuss where they need assistance in the program.
At a later date myself and a team of other students in my college program, will visit HHS to host workshops in multiple areas of theatre (scenic, lighting, audio, etc.) to help the high school students further understand how their facilities and equipment work.
Many of these students are very interested in designing for the stage, but are unsure where to start. My goal is to help HHS create a foundation and program to provide high school students with the guidance and materials to design in theatre.
Phase 1: Presentation and Setting Goals
In Phase 1 we will visit HHS and have conversations with the TD and ATD of the program to further understand what they need guidance in and what the current state of the facilities are. We will then give a short presentation to students about the different areas in theatre to help them understand the pathways high school "drama club" can lead to after graduation. We will host a Q&A after to answer any questions the students may have.
